Current Project:
After successfully completing two schools, OSAAT is looking forward to helping 3 more schools in 2008. After screening all the RFPs received to date, we have short-listed the following 3 schools.
Govt School, Nazarbad, Karnataka
This school near the city of Mysore, Karnataka, was established in the late 1950's. It serves 2500 female students enrolled in pre-school through pre-university classes. The students are pre-dominantly from families of day-laborers from rural areas around Nazarbad. The school is practically in shambles, with many rooms with collapsed roof and walls. The local community and Rotary Club, Mysore, have been aggressively pursuing the rebuilding efforts and a few new classrooms have already been built. OSAAT will fund for building 2 classrooms. Estimated cost: $20,000.

|
One of the several collapsed classrooms in a dilapidated building. Although this is a government school, no help has been forthcoming from the government. |

|
This is one of the "classrooms" under a tree. Our volunteers have reported that anti-social elements are creating nuisance at this all-girls school that has no choice but to conduct classes outside. |

|
Another "classroom" outside the building. Rain or shine, the classes have to go on and the students take it all in stride just to get an education.

Vishwa Bharati Vidya Samsthe, Bhadravati, Karnataka
This is a private school serving 300 students in pre-school through Grade 7. The kids come from families of day-laborers from rural areas around Bommanakatte, Bhadravati, Karnataka. The school was established in 1989 and has managed to stay alive despite lack of any help from the Government, although it is serving a critical need of the community. Thanks to the remarkable efforts of the local community and the Rotary Club of Bhadravati, the school has managed to construct a very badly needed new building, drinking water facilities and toilets. Due to rising construction costs, the school is unable to finish the last leg of the construction in terms of plastering of the interior and exterior of the building, door and window shutters. OSAAT will help the school finish the remaining work and allow the classes to be conducted in the new building. Estimated cost: $13,000.

|
This school building has no doors and window shutters. The school worked very hard to raise money from the local community to build a bare facility but ran out of money to complete the building. |

|
A rough patch of land around the school building is where the kids play and assemble. |
SS Matriculation Thandalam school, Tamilnadu
Located on the border of Tamilnadu and Andhrapradesh, this school is currently serving 200 kids, enrolled in pre-school to middle school. These kids come from local backward and farming communities. A group of caring individuals who recognized the needs of this community have formed a local NGO to start the school. Their sheer determination, not to mention the sweat and blood they have been putting in, has made it possible for this community that has been practically neglected by everyone including the Government. The school is in dire need of everything - classrooms, drinking water and sanitation facilities, laboratory, internet facilities, school supplies, and means of transportation. OSAAT will fund the immediate need of a clean drinking water facility. Estimated cost: $3,000.
